We leave here with a very satisfied feeling.
We got a good start in the morning and managed to finish the project list for the day by early afternoon. The exterior is 90% finished, all siding has 2 coats of paint, but the side door deck is still to be build by next crew to come in. Inside only needs finishing work, kitchen cabinets, hardwood flooring and painting. Another project for next crew.
How's that for 5 days work ? !!!!!

As a member of the Waveland House Building team, I can verify this was a great week. Lots of hard work by everyone on the Team, but well worth it as we drove away on Friday with the great sense of satisfaction.
My parting message to all is to repeat the words of Lagniappe volunteer Cylde who said he had 3 things for us to remember:
1) Everyone can do something. I was the clean-up person more than a carpenter but that job was necessary too.
2) Return to the Gulfcoast to help build, be a tourist (they depend on that for their economy -- and where else can you feel noble by eating out at a restaurant or going shopping!)
3) Go back to your own community and "Help Build It".
I encourage everyone to check out www.habitat.org and click on "Operation Home Delivery" or look for your own affiliate to find that right job waiting for you. You won't be sorry -- and a family in need will be so grateful.
There was a front page article in the NY Times, 2/22/07, that disparaged Habitat's work in the Gulf Coast region, as not yet meeting promises made after the hurrican Katrina hit in 2005. As a rebuttal, please read the following excerpt:
"New Orleans is much different [than tsunami regions}. .... almost a year has been required just to clean out the poisonous wastes deposited by weeks of stagnant water standing in existing homes. Only then could these homes be repaired or torn down and replaced.
The lack of building lots and uncertain government standards have raised additional problems in New Orleans. Despite all this, Habitat is meeting its declared goals in the Gulf region .....
We are proud of what Habitat for Humanity has accomplished, and we look forward to joining Gulf Coast efforts later this year as we help more families move into safe, decent homes.

I'm very moved by what you all did. I congratulate and honor you all. You've done what we call a "mitzvah" and you should feel proud of yourselves. I am proud of you.
